Transition Year at Coláiste Abhainn Rí gives students the chance to step outside the traditional classroom structure and explore a wide range of subjects and experiences. It’s a unique year where students grow in confidence, discover new interests, and build important life skills.
Throughout the year, students take part in a variety of modules. This assists them in selecting their subjects for Leaving Certificate and helps them think about future career options. These include:

Over the course of the year, students also get involved in a wide range of workshops and activities that help them develop practical, creative, and social skills—things that will benefit them for years to come. These include music workshops, forensics, rugby, team-building, acting, barbering and hairdressing, law, and much more.
One of the highlights of the year is the annual Transition Year musical, which brings students together in a fun and rewarding production. They also go on several trips during the year, including a trip abroad and a special adventure as part of their GAISCE (The President’s Award), which they work on throughout the year.
Transition Year is all about growth, exploration, and building confidence. It’s a memorable and valuable year that gives students the chance to learn more about themselves and the world around them.
